I see it often. Businesses spend a tremendous amount of time in needless data entry and handling, restraining their business growth and limiting profits. How does a business overcome this trend?

Middleware applications. They save countless hours of data entry time per year and more importantly, middleware prevents inefficient "hand-offs" which means you'll eliminate errors and greatly speed up processes.

First, to find where you may have needless data entry and handling, look for how many "hand-offs" any process has.  For example, take the typical sales order process.  For many businesses, it works something like this:

  1. The salesperson has a prospect with interest in their product or service.

Expiration of Microsoft Windows XP Announced in New PC Purchases
 

You may remember that very soon after Microsoft released Windows XP operating system for personal computers, you were not able to buy a PC with the older, Windows 2000 operating system. Microsoft just stopped making it available for purchase.

I'm sure they would have liked to force sales of Vista in the same manner, but there were too many programs that were incompatible with Vista when it was first released about a year and a half ago, and too many big corporations just said "no" to upgrading.  However, Microsoft now thinks the time is right, and has announced an expiration date for new sales of Windows XP - June 30th of this year.

Ask The Expert: What's the Difference Between The Licensing Options Microsoft Offers?

Microsoft offers many types of licensing with benefits based on the type you purchase. Let's cover some of the options, the benefits they provide, and some misconceptions regarding usage of the licenses.

The licensing options that are available for the small/medium business market (SMB) are OEM, retail packages, and volume license programs. The first type of license, and most common, is the OEM license. This license is only available with the purchase of new hardware (i.e. a new PC or server). You order the hardware along with the software or applications pre-installed from the manufacturer. This is a good option ONLY if your company upgrades software when they purchase new hardware. Let Favicons Capture Your Logo For Website Presence

Have you noticed that some websites have an icon or a logo in the address bar of their website? One, for example, is the website Google.com, which has the "G" icon:

These are called favicons (pronounced fav-icons) and they are also known as "website icons" or  "bookmark icons".  A favicon is a visual shortcut to your website or a mini-logo.  Depending on your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) the favicon will be seen:

1. In your address bar:
 
2. On  your  list  of  favorites  or  bookmarked  pages  (only  if  the  user bookmarks the page):
